IVF is a big decision, most couples will use it as a last resort as it is a stressful and costly process. At Nüwa, our acupuncturist focus on supporting you and your partner through this process. Jessica has extensive knowledge of the IVF protocols, medications and expectations, which allows her to help guide both you and your partner through each stage.
During your first session you will go through in detail your medical/fertility history. You will then receive a treatment tailored to you followed by any herbal, nutritional and lifestyle recommendations that will improve your fertility and increase your chances of success.
Evidence suggests that the best results are achieved if preparation is made 3 months prior to your IVF cycle. Treatments will encourage blood and qi to the ovaries and uterus to optimise follicle growth and quality as well as ensuring the endometrium is nutrient rich, healthy and thick. It is also essential to assist with decreasing stress hormones as they are a major influence in fertility.
TRIGGER AND EGG COLLECTION
A trigger injection is given to mimic ovulation so that 36 hours later egg collection can take place. Having a treatment between these two events increases blood flow to the follicles. Recently clinical trials have shown that following this protocol significantly effects egg quality and maturation.
POST EGG COLLECTION
Just after egg collection a treatment can be given to help reduce swelling and bloating. The treatment will focus on the energy flow to the abdomen to speed up the healing process and to prepare the body for embryo transfer.
PRE AND POST EMBRYO TRANSFER
These two treatments take place on the day of transfer before and after. Having the treatments as close to the transfer time as possible is recommended however, even though we offer early appointments this can sometimes be difficult for some so it is possible to have treatment the evening prior to transfer. Pre ET- this treatment focuses on blood flow and qi to the uterus. Post ET- encourages relaxation and implantation.
It is recommended that 4-7 days after transfer another treatment is given to support the implantation, encourage healthy uterine lining and to lower stress hormones.
